Integrated Constructed Wetlands
Integrated Constructed Wetlands - ICW
Vesi Environmental Ltd are particularly specialised in the design and application of Integrated Constructed Wetlands (ICW). In fact, our personnel have been at the forefront of the development of the ICW concept.
ICWs are designed to manage wastewaters in a way that is compatible with the local aquatic and terrestrial environment so that they do not adversely impact on these adjacent ecosystems but rather provide significantly enhanced habitat support.
Vesi Environmental ICW services include:
- Assessment and evaluation of sites for ICWs
- Detailed ICW designs
- Construction
- Landscaping (aquatic and terrestrial areas of a site)
- Maintenance
- Treatment of sewage effluent (single houses, housing developments/conglomerations, villages, towns, hotels and commercial/industrial units.
- Agricultural (treatment of runoff waters, wash waters and effluents for dairy, beef, poultry, piggery farms)
- Industrial - mining, quarrying, food processing, recycling facilities.
- Civic – landfill leachate, sludge dewatering, stormwater drainage, golf courses.
Performance
The performance of appropriately sized, operated and managed ICWs, have shown very high efficacy in nutrient and microbial treatment. Monitoring of ICWs has shown efficiency rates of 99% for BOD, suspended solids, ammonia and MRP removal.
Our ICW designs adhere to the Guidance on ICWs published by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. - Download the guidelines here.
ICW systems can play an important role in facilitating the management of Irelands surface and ground waters, ensuring compliance with EU Directives and National Regulations, especially the EU Water Framework Directive.
