Pre-construction
VESI Environmental has designed and developed a number Integrated Constructed Wetlands (ICW) in public amenity areas where water quality, biodiversity and landscape enrichment were sought and delivered. In addition to the aims, the ICWs have provided additional amenity and educational features and resources.
Construction
Griffeen Valley Park ICW, part of the South Dublin Urban River Life (DURL) project was constructed in 2022 to treat the incoming contaminated stormwater flows before entering the River Griffeen. A two cell ICW was created to treat these flows and allow treated flows enter the river. Where once was a grassed area, now lies a biodiverse haven for wildlife, changing seasonally in growth and colour.
Post Construction
Community planting of the wetland was undertaken in August 2022 to inform and engage the locals into the purpose and importance of the project. Operating effectively, it improves local water course quality, provides biodiversity and creates a bespoke amenity area for the public to enjoy and engage with.
